Brightwell Aquatics Lugol’s is a highly concentrated iodine and iodide solution designed for advanced reef aquarists who require precision supplementation. Iodine plays a critical role in the health of hermatypic invertebrates, such as corals, clams, and other organisms that rely on zooxanthellae. These symbiotic algae produce oxygen during photosynthesis, which can irritate coral tissue under intense lighting. Iodide helps bind and neutralize this excess oxygen, reducing stress and encouraging full polyp extension and vibrant coloration.

In natural seawater, iodine is present in low concentrations—yet even at just 0.06 ppm, it is vital for the survival of corals, crustaceans, macroalgae, and reef fishes. However, iodine depletes quickly due to protein skimming and carbon filtration, making accurate supplementation necessary for maintaining optimal reef health.

Aquarium Dosing:

1. Test iodine level with a reliable test kit.

2. Use formula: Gallons x ppm increase x 0.07570 = ml to add.

3. To convert ml to drops, multiply ml x 20 (1 ml = 20 drops).

4. Dose in high-flow area; monitor closely.

5. Avoid overuse—only dose when iodine levels are low.

Coral Dip Preparation:

1. Pull 1 gallon of tank water into a separate container.

2. Use formula: 14.4 ÷ ppm per gallon (on your label) = ml to add.

3. Example: If label says 12 ppm per gallon, add 1.2 ml (or 1 full dropper + 4 drops).

4. Soak corals for 10–12 minutes.

5. Rinse corals in clean tank water before returning.
